Nagaris and XPM sync in both directions, but each direction is a separate switch and updates flow through in the background rather than the instant you save. This article explains what to expect and how to hurry a sync along.
On the Xero Practice Manager Integration card (Settings → Integrations) you'll find two switches once connected:
Nagaris automatically updates XPM — changes made in Nagaris are pushed out to XPM.
XPM automatically updates Nagaris — changes made in XPM flow back into Nagaris.
Each can be on or off independently. For example, you can treat Nagaris as the source of truth by leaving only the first switch on. Changing a switch shows Sync settings updated successfully.
On top of the organisation-wide switches, each client group has its own XPM auto-sync toggle (the green XPM icon). A client only syncs if its group's auto-sync is on — see the dedicated article in this section.
Changes made in XPM are picked up by Nagaris's background sync, not pushed through the moment you save them in XPM. If you've just edited something in XPM and it hasn't appeared:
Go to Settings → Integrations, on the Xero Practice Manager tab.
Open the three-dot Extra Actions menu on the Xero Practice Manager Integration card.
Choose Refresh XPM to pull the latest changes now — you'll see XPM refreshed successfully.
For a fuller re-sync, choose Import from XPM instead (Import from XPM initiated successfully.).
Check that XPM automatically updates Nagaris is switched on — if it's off, XPM changes will never flow through on their own.
Cards on a client's page (such as the client details, contacts, XPM Standard Fields and XPM Custom Fields cards) show an XPM sync badge whenever the client's group has auto-sync enabled:
Pending — waiting to sync with XPM.
Syncing — currently syncing with XPM.
Synced — successfully synced with XPM. Hover over the badge to see when, e.g. Last synced 5 minutes ago.
Failed — failed to sync with XPM. An XPM Error Message alert with the reason appears on the client details card — see the connection troubleshooting article.
Not Connected — this record is not connected to XPM.
While a client shows Pending or Syncing, Nagaris re-checks the status a few times automatically, so the badge usually resolves itself within moments.
Jobs have their own XPM icon with the same idea — hovering shows XPM Status: followed by Synced, Pending, Failed, Submitted or Not Connected.
Sync runs in the background even while nobody is looking at the record — you don't need to keep a page open.
If a record stays stale after a manual Refresh XPM, note the client or group name plus the expected and actual values, and send them to support.
