Every client (entity) in Nagaris belongs to a client group, so creating a client always starts by choosing the group it belongs to. This article walks through creating each client type, the ABN lookup that prefills business details, and how to move a client later.
From a group: open the group, go to the Clients tab and click Add Client.
From the Clients page: click New Client. A Select Client Group dialog opens (Search and select a client group to create a new client for.) — pick the group first.
From the sidebar: hover over Clients and click the plus button, then New Client. If you are already on a client group's page, Nagaris uses that group automatically; otherwise it asks you to select one.
The Select Client Type dialog lists the seven types — Sole Trader, Individual Tax Return, Company, Trust, Partnership, SMSF and Other Client — each with a short description. Select one and click Next.
Individuals in Nagaris are built on a contact record, so these two types include a contact step:
Individual Tax Return: you go straight to a contact search (Search for an existing contact or create a new one...). Pick an existing contact by name or email, or click Create New Contact to add one on the spot. The client is created from that contact.
Sole Trader: first enter the Sole Trader Name, click Next, then search for (or create) the contact behind the business.
For business entities the dialog shows an ABN Lookup section: Search by ABN, ACN or business name to automatically fill client details. As you type, matching businesses from the Australian Business Register appear with their name, state, postcode and formatted ABN.
Select the right business. Its registered name fills the name field (locked), and the form shows the ABN, ACN, Registration Date, GST Registration Date and any Business Names found.
Click Create. Nagaris saves the entity with those details and confirms with a toast such as Successfully created new Company Smith Holdings Pty Ltd.
If you'd rather not use the lookup, collapse the ABN Lookup section and type the name manually — you can add the ABN and other details on the client's page later. Click Reset to clear a selected business and search again.
Nagaris also has a standalone ABN Lookup page for quick ABR searches outside of client creation. Enter an ABN, ACN or business name and click Search. Each result card shows the business's ABN, ACN, Type, Status (with the date it took effect), GST Registration (registered from date, or Not registered), Location and any Business Names.
An Other Client can be converted: open its details card, click the extra actions menu and choose Change Client Type, then pick the correct type in the Change Client Type dialog. A toast confirms the change.
An Individual Tax Return client can be upgraded via Convert to Sole Trader in the same menu.
From the client's details card, open the extra actions menu and choose Move to Client Group. The Manage Client Group Membership dialog opens:
Search for a group, or type a new name and choose Create New Group … (new groups created here start as Active). You can also click Create New Client Group to use the full group form.
Choose what to do with the selected group:
Move to This Group — moves the client out of its current group and makes this its primary group for billing, engagements and invoices.
Also Show in This Group — adds the group as an additional group; the client stays in its current group for billing, engagements and invoices. In the extra group, the client appears under an Additional Clients heading with an Additional badge.
Remove from This Group — appears when the selected group is already an additional group, and removes the client from it.
Click View History (or Related Client Groups (Movements) in the client's actions menu) to see every group the client has moved through.
After creating a client from the Clients page or sidebar, Nagaris takes you to the group's Clients tab with the new client's card open for editing.
If a group has no clients yet, its Clients tab shows No clients have been created yet. Start by adding your first client. with an Add Client button.
