A job in Nagaris can display up to three different kinds of status, and they answer different questions. This article explains each one and where you'll see it.
The Job Status filter on job lists, and the Lifecycle field on the job overview, reflect the engagement the job belongs to:
Active — the engagement is live and being worked.
Overdue — the job is past due (calculated on the fly).
Awaiting signature — the engagement has been sent but not yet accepted.
Draft — the engagement is still a draft.
Complete — the engagement is complete.
Rejected — the engagement was rejected.
No status — the job isn't linked to an engagement (standalone and recurring jobs).
Because standalone jobs have no engagement, they always sit in the No status bucket — keep that in mind when filtering, or you'll wonder where they went.
For firms connected to Xero Practice Manager, every job also has an XPM Status showing whether it has reached XPM. It appears as the XPM icon in lists and on the job header — hover it to see XPM Status: …:
Pending — the job exists in Nagaris but hasn't been submitted to XPM yet (a local draft).
Submitted — the job has been sent to XPM.
Synced — the job is linked and up to date with XPM.
Failed — the submission to XPM failed.
Not Connected — the job has no XPM link at all.
The matching XPM Status filter offers Submitted to XPM, Pending (local / draft) and Failed, plus two quick options: Show all (no filter) and Submitted only (default). For XPM-connected organisations the default everywhere (job lists, timesheet pickers, timesheet filters) is Submitted only — pending local jobs are hidden until you widen the filter. Organisations without an XPM connection see all jobs and no XPM filters.
While a job's XPM status is Pending, some actions are locked: you can't sync it from XPM (Cannot sync while job XPM status is pending) and you can't complete or reopen its tasks (Cannot modify tasks while job XPM status is pending). Submit the job to XPM, or wait for the submission to settle, and the actions unlock.
Jobs also carry a State — the job state from your XPM account (the same states you see in XPM, such as your firm's own workflow stages). Nagaris shows it as a small badge:
In the State column of job lists.
In the XPM state field of the job overview.
Click the badge to open a dropdown of your XPM job states and pick a new one; you'll see Job state updated when it saves. If the dropdown shows No states loaded — refresh XPM data, your XPM state list hasn't synced yet. You can also filter job lists by State.
Finally, the job header shows a simple progress badge computed from the job's own tasks:
Active — at least one task is still pending (or the job has no tasks).
Completed — every task on the job is completed.
The header subtitle also counts progress, for example 2 of 5 tasks complete or All 5 tasks complete.
Only the State and task completion are things you set directly; lifecycle status follows the engagement, and XPM status follows the submission process.
If a job seems to be missing from a list, check the Job Status and XPM Status filters first — the defaults hide non-active and unsubmitted jobs for connected firms.
