Understanding engagements and proposals

What engagements are in Nagaris, the engagement statuses and what they mean, and how to find, filter and export your engagements.

An engagement in Nagaris bundles services, pricing and terms into a client agreement. You build the engagement, send it to your client as a proposal, and once the client signs, the engagement becomes active and drives your jobs, payment schedule and invoicing. This article explains the engagements list, the statuses you'll see, and how a single engagement can cover a whole client group.

Where to find your engagements

Go to Engagements in the sidebar. The page lists every engagement in your firm with its Name, Client Group, Status, Value, $, Start, Due and Created columns, plus an Actions column. A Fees / Budget column (actual fees against budget with a progress bar) is available but hidden by default — turn it on from the table's column menu.

Click an engagement's name to open its detail page, or use the New Engagement button to start a new one.

Each client group also has its own Engagements tab, showing only that group's engagements.

Engagement statuses

The Status column shows where each engagement is in its lifecycle:

  • Draft — the engagement has been created but the proposal has not been sent to the client yet.

  • Awaiting signature — the proposal has been sent and Nagaris is waiting for the client (or one of the signatories) to sign.

  • Active — the client has accepted the engagement.

  • Completed — all of the engagement's jobs are done.

  • Overdue — the engagement's due date has passed without it being completed. Nagaris updates this automatically overnight.

  • Lost — the proposal was rejected, either declined by the client or marked as rejected by your team.

While an engagement is Awaiting signature, its status badge is clickable: open the dropdown and choose Mark as rejected if the client has told you they won't proceed. The engagement then shows as Lost.

Filtering and searching

Above the table you can combine:

  • Search — free-text search across engagements.

  • Date Range — filter by created date.

  • Sent to Client — whether a proposal has been sent yet.

  • Status — one or more of Draft, Awaiting signature, Active, Completed, Rejected.

  • More — reveals extra filters: Proposal name, Service name, Partner, Manager, Date Sent and Reminders (whether follow-up reminders are enabled).

Two quick-filter badges sit above the table: Awaiting signature (proposals still waiting to be signed) and Ending in 90 days (engagements whose due date falls in the next 90 days) — handy for planning re-engagements.

The footer shows the number of engagements and a Total value figure for the current filtered set. Use the table's actions menu to Export the filtered list as a CSV, adjust visible columns, or open Bulk Engagement Status to review the progress of bulk engagement-creation batches.

Actions on each engagement

Depending on its status, each row offers:

  • Edit Engagement — opens the proposal builder. Not available once the proposal has been accepted.

  • Duplicate Engagement — starts a new draft copied from the engagement.

  • Send Reminder — for sent proposals still awaiting a response.

  • Download PDF — for accepted engagements.

  • Delete Engagement — available while the engagement is not active.

One proposal for a group, or separate proposals per entity?

A single engagement in Nagaris belongs to a client group and can cover multiple entities in that group — this is one of Nagaris's core strengths. Every service line and every job on the engagement has its own Client field, and each payment package has its own Invoice to client, so one proposal can include the company's tax return, the trust's financials and the individuals' returns, each priced and invoiced against the right entity.

Use one group proposal when the client should review and sign the whole scope together. Create separate engagements per entity when each entity needs its own scope, its own signer, or its own acceptance timing.

Good to know

  • The engagement Value is the engagement's total for the client (excluding GST), calculated from its payment packages.

  • Start can show an On acceptance badge when the engagement is set to start on the day the client signs, and Due can show a badge like 12M from start when the due date is relative rather than fixed.
